Abstract: The present invention relates to an eco-sustainable latent fingerprint developing powder comprising finely processed Citrus limetta peel powder for visualization of latent fingerprints on non-porous surfaces. The powder is prepared by collecting fresh Citrus limetta peels, washing the peels with distilled water, sun drying the washed peels, drying the peels in a hot air oven at about 120°C until brittle, grinding the dried peels and sieving the ground material through a micro-pore cloth to obtain a fine and uniform powder fraction. The powder may optionally include a minor quantity of custard powder or another non-toxic biodegradable smoothening carrier to improve odour and application smoothness. The fine particles adhere to moisture and sebaceous components of latent fingerprint residues and develop visible ridge patterns on surfaces such as glass, steel, metal, aluminium foil, varnished wood, plastic, compact discs, transparent sheets and granite. The invention provides a biodegradable, non-toxic, low-cost and heavy metal-free alternative to conventional fingerprint powders. Accompanied Drawing [FIGS. 1-2]
