Abstract: 7. ABSTRACT Proper waste management plays a major role in maintaining environmental cleanliness and supporting sustainable development. The proposed project introduces an automated waste segregation system capable of separating waste into four categories: dry waste, wet waste, plastic waste, and metallic waste. The primary aim of the system is to reduce manual effort and improve the accuracy of waste sorting in homes and small public environments. The system operates using multiple sensors that identify different types of waste materials. A moisture-based sensor is used to detect wet waste, an infrared sensor helps identify dry waste, and a proximity sensor is responsible for detecting metal objects. Based on the signals received from these sensors, an Arduino Uno microcontroller processes the information and controls actuators such as servo motors and stepper motors to direct the waste into the appropriate collection bins. By automating the segregation process, the system improves efficiency, minimizes human error, and encourages better recycling practices. The project is mainly intended for small-scale applications including households, schools, offices, and public spaces. In addition, the design can be further enhanced in the future through the integration of advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for large-scale smart waste management solutions. The virtual simulation and testing of the system before physical implementation also help reduce hardware risks and ensure smoother operation of the final prototype.
