The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an eco-friendly water-based drilling mud composition and a method for preparing the same. The drilling mud composition comprises water, hydrated bentonite and a natural polymer system comprising potato starch and xanthan gum, optionally in combination with one or more of cassava starch, corn starch, guar gum and carboxymethyl cellulose. The bentonite is hydrated to form a stable matrix, followed by sequential incorporation of the natural polymers and homogenization to obtain a uniform drilling mud. The synergistic interaction between the hydrated bentonite, potato starch and xanthan gum provides improved rheological characteristics, enhanced cuttings suspension, effective fluid loss control and improved wellbore stability while reducing pumping resistance. The drilling mud is biodegradable, non-toxic and suitable for drilling oil, gas, geothermal and mineral exploration wells. The composition satisfies API RP 13B-1 performance requirements and provides an environmentally sustainable alternative to conventional synthetic additive-based water drilling muds.
