Abstract: Water is one of the most essential natural resources for sustaining life on the earth. But nowadays water has become heavily polluted due to rapid urbanization and industrial growth. Because these industries release synthetic waste water into rivers without any treatment. Synthetic wastewater containing dyes and other toxic substances presents serious threats to both environmental systems and human health. There are very conventional treatment methods such as coagulation, flocculation, reverse osmosis, and ion exchange are often costly and can lead to secondary pollution. In this work, rice husk ash an abundant agricultural by product is explored as a low-cost and eco-friendly adsorbent for the treatment of contaminated wastewater. Pristine Rice Husk Biochar (PRhBc) was synthesized and evaluated as a low cost and efficient adsorbent for the removal of Erichrome Black T (EBT) dye from synthetic wastewater. The PRhBc was prepared via pyrolysis at 550 oC. The synthesized PRhBc is characterized by FESEM analysis which clearly shows that the synthesized material is having porous structure. The synthesized PRhBc was characterized by using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) analysis. FESEM analysis confirms that the morphology of the material is highly porous. The EBT dye shows a removal efficiency of 98.4% at 6 pH, 900 mg of PRhBc, 8 mg/L of EBT dye concentration, 70 minutes of contact time and with a removal efficiency of 98.4 %.
