MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631079323 A) filed by Dr. Debashree Dutta; and Dr. Borkha Mech on June 27, 2026, for Eco-Friendly Copper Oxide Nanoparticle-Based Drilling Fluid Composition For Petroleum Recovery And Method Thereof.
Inventors include Dr. Debashree Dutta; and Dr. Borkha Mech.
The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure discloses an eco-friendly, cost-effective drilling fluid formulation supplemented with biogenic copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) for enhanced petroleum recovery from sandstone reservoirs, along with its method of preparation. The formulation comprises 6–8 wt.% of green-synthesized CuO NPs (size 18–20 nm), 1–4 wt.% bentonite, 0.2–0.4 wt.% NaOH, and 90– 92 wt.% sterile water. The CuO NPs are synthesized using Camellia sinensis extract as a bio-reducing agent, avoiding toxic chemical synthetics. The formulated drilling fluid exhibits highly desirable shear-thinning behavior, reduces surface connection frictional pressure losses, and demonstrates superior transport ratios up to 98.20% for excellent bottom-hole cutting evacuation.
