Abstract: The present invention relates to a sustainable process for producing biodegradable and compostable packaging materials from agro-food processing waste using circular bioeconomy principles. Agricultural residues are utilized as renewable feedstocks for the extraction of natural biopolymers, which are subsequently blended to form a biodegradable polymer matrix. The matrix is modified with biodegradable plasticizers and natural stabilizing agents to improve flexibility, mechanical strength, thermal stability, and moisture resistance. The formulated material is fabricated into films or molded packaging products through conventional processing techniques such as film casting, extrusion, or compression molding. Natural antimicrobial agents are incorporated to impart antimicrobial functionality and enhance the shelf life and safety of packaged products. The developed packaging material provides an eco-friendly alternative to conventional petroleum-based plastics by combining biodegradability, compostability, and functional performance. The invention promotes the valorization of agricultural waste, reduces environmental pollution, supports resource efficiency, and enables the scalable production of sustainable packaging materials for food and other commercial applications.
