Abstract: An earthquake safety apparatus, comprising a frame assembly configured to be installed in or around a doorway opening of a structure, the frame assembly defining a passageway in a normal-use state, a deployable shelter assembly integrated with the frame assembly and movable between a stored state and a deployed state, the deployable shelter assembly comprising a plurality of load- bearing structural members configured, in the deployed state, to form a protective enclosure extending from the frame assembly, a seismic detection module provided with the frame assembly and configured to detect a seismic event, a control unit operatively coupled to the seismic detection module and the deployable shelter assembly, the control unit being configured to initiate deployment of the deployable shelter assembly when the detected seismic event satisfies a predetermined threshold, a ventilation arrangement configured to provide breathable air within the protective enclosure.
