Abstract: Water bodies often appear healthy and blue to the naked eye even as they begin to choke on excess nutrients and enter the early stages of eutrophication. By the time the water turns green, the ecological damage is usually irreversible, leading to oxygen depletion and the release of harmful toxins. This invention introduces a "predictive eye" for water management through a high-precision Red-Edge Position (REP) algorithm designed for sub-visual detection. Unlike traditional methods that rely on reactive indices (such as NDVI) and wait for a visible color change, this system analyzes the unseen "spectral slide" of light as it interacts with the physiological structure of microscopic algae cells. The core of the invention lies in a multi-stage computational pipeline: first, it utilizes a Savitzky-Golay filter to denoise raw hyperspectral data captured from aerial or satellite platforms; second, it applies a derivative-based mathematical filter to identify the maximum slope of reflectance. This allow the algorithm to detect the subtle shift of the "Red-Edge"—identifying the exact moment algae starts to multiply at concentrations as low as 2-3 $mu$g/L— up to a week before it becomes a visible bloom.
