MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611096078 A) filed by Chandigarh University on August 08, 2026, for Dynamic Water Stress Index System Using Temporal Soil Moisture Recovery Curves.

Inventors include Vikas Pandit; and Archana Kumari.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for adaptive, predictive irrigation scheduling in precision agriculture using Temporal Soil Moisture Recovery Curves (TSMRC), a Dynamic Water Stress Index (DWSI), and a Soil Recovery Coefficient (SRC). The system continuously acquires time-series soil moisture and temperature data, models post-irrigation moisture recovery using an exponential decay function to determine a soil moisture decay constant, and computes the SRC for characterizing soil-specific moisture recovery behavior. A predictive time-to-stress parameter and the DWSI are generated using current soil moisture, decay characteristics, crop growth stage, and temperature to proactively schedule irrigation before crop water stress occurs. All sensing, computation, learning, and irrigation control are executed on edge-based embedded hardware without continuous cloud connectivity, thereby improving water-use efficiency, reducing energy consumption, and enabling reliable autonomous operation in precision agriculture.
