Abstract: This disclosure provides a method for dynamic geofencing in a communications network. The method comprises transmitting from a VAL server to a LM server a geofencing subscription request, comprising an Area of Interest (AoI) related to at least one target User Equipment (UE), particularly wherein the LM server is a Service Enabler Architecture Layer (SEAL) LM server, particularly wherein the geofencing subscription request is a Monitoring Location Subscription Request, particularly wherein the AoI comprises a proximity range from at least one reference UE; transmitting from the LM server to a 3GPP CN a monitoring request for any one of location change, access type change, roaming status change or loss of connectivity of a target UE and/or a reference UE, particularly wherein the 3GPP CN comprises a Network Exposure Function, NEF; receiving at the LM server from the 3GPP CN monitoring information pertaining to the monitoring request; determining at the LM server whether the target UE is within the AoI, particularly wherein the determining is based on monitoring information of at least one reference UE or at least one target UE received from the 3GPP CN; and transmitting from the LM server to the VAL server a target UE status in relation to the AoI, particularly wherein the target UE status is based on the determining. In some embodiments, the method further comprises transmitting from the VAL server to the LM server multiple target UEs in the geofencing subscription request. In some embodiments, the method further comprises transmitting from the VAL server to the LM server a temporal condition, a connectivity condition, and/or a spatial condition for the reference UE in the geofencing subscription request. In some embodiments, the method further comprises suppressing at the LM server uninterested notifications. In some embodiments, the method further comprises transmitting from the LM server to the VAL server an indication that the target UE status cannot be obtained.
