Abstract: The present invention discloses a dynamic, adaptive control methodology for Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) designed to detect and mitigate power quality degradation—specifically high-frequency harmonic distortion and voltage fluctuations—induced by the integration of large-scale, bidirectional Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) power transfers. As Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) relies on bidirectional power electronic converters that inject nonlinear currents into the distribution grid during charging and discharging cycles, the proposed system employs a real-time, closed-loop control algorithm integrated with a grid-tied FACTS device, such as a Distributed Static Compensator (D-STATCOM) or Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC). The core controller utilizes a predictive harmonic extraction technique to continuously monitor the localized grid interface, isolating V2G-induced fundamental frequency deviations and harmonic spectrums. Upon detection, the dynamic controller instantly calculates the required anti-phase compensatory currents and reactive power, synthesizing the gating signals for the FACTS device's voltage source converter (VSC). This instantaneous injection effectively neutralizes the targeted harmonic components, actively suppressing the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) to comply with IEEE-519 standards. Additionally, the methodology provides simultaneous voltage sag/swell compensation and dynamic reactive power support. The invention thereby enhances the transient stability, power quality, and overall reliability of smart distribution networks, maximizing the hosting capacity of electric vehicles within microgrids without compromising grid integrity.
