MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641113874 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on September 23, 2026, for Dynamic Aero-Adaptive Skin (das) With Real-Time Diagnostics.

Inventors include Pankaj Shukla; Nibha Kumari Mishra; Utkarsh Kedia; Sohil Agarwal; and Yashashvi Rai.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: A dynamic aero-adaptive skin (DAS) system (100) for an aircraft is disclosed. The system (100) includes a morphing surface formed of shape-memory polymers, an array of sensors configured to monitor environmental conditions, structural health, and aircraft performance in real time, and the processing engine (108) having one or more processors (102) coupled to a memory. The processing engine (108) is operable to receive and analyse sensor data, determine a health state of the aircraft, and selectively activate the morphing surface to autonomously repair structural damage. The DAS system (100) enhances aircraft resilience, reduces maintenance demands, and improves operational safety and efficiency through real-time adaptive functionality.
