Abstract: ABSTRACT: A dental bur is disclosed comprising a tungsten carbide working body of barbell profile, mounted upon a standard friction-grip shank for engagement with a dental laboratory micromotor handpiece. The working body comprises two rounded heads of differing diameter disposed at opposite ends thereof, each head bearing a coarser cross-cut carbide flute pattern configured for bulk removal of sharp excess acrylic resin flash at the periphery of a complete denture or an acrylic orthodontic appliance, including a Hawley retainer, during fabrication. The two heads are joined by an intervening waist of reduced diameter bearing a finer plain-cut carbide flute pattern configured for smoothing of the trimmed edge, the reduced cutting aggressiveness of the waist relative to the heads limiting further material removal during the smoothing pass. The differing diameters of the two heads afford access to regions of the appliance periphery of differing curvature, while the single working body eliminates the need for instrument exchange between the trimming and smoothing stages of edge finishing across denture and orthodontic acrylic appliance workflows alike
