Abstract: The present invention discloses the DualBeam, a bifunctional illuminated dental diagnostic instrument designed to consolidate illuminated oral examination and periodontal probing into a single ergonomic device. The instrument comprises an elongated central handle featuring a mouth mirror receptacle at one end and a probe receptacle at the other, each end housing a dedicated independent light source controlled by a separate activation button. The mirror end accommodates five interchangeable front-surface mouth mirror attachments of varying magnification levels (lx, l.Sx, 2x, 2.5x, and 3x) and corresponding clinical sizes (#5/24mm, #4/22mm, #4/22mm, #3/20mm, #2/18mm), enabling optimal visualization across general examination, restorative, periodontal, posterior access, and pediatric or microsurgical procedures. The probe end accommodates nine interchangeable diagnostic tips: Straight Explorer, Shepherd's Hook Explorer, Orban's Explorer, UNC-15 Probe, WHO (CPITN) Probe, Nabers Furcation Probe and Williams Periodontal Probe. A key differentiating feature is the angulated light source on the probe side, positioned at the handle-shank junction to precisely illuminate the probe's working tip, eliminating procedural shadows. The instrument is fabricated from high-grade autoclavable stainless steel.
