Abstract: Disclosed is a dual-source direct-current load-sharing system having a photovoltaic-chargeable battery source, a grid-derived direct-current source, and a load output. Separate voltage sensors provide sensed source voltages to a controller. A switching assembly includes first relay contacts between the battery source and the load output and second relay contacts between the grid-derived source and the load output. The controller repetitively compares the sensed voltages and closes only the relay contacts associated with the higher sensed voltage. During a source change, the controller opens the closed relay contacts, holds both sets of relay contacts open for a dead-time interval, and thereafter closes the relay contacts associated with the other source. The mutually exclusive relay states and intervening all-open interval prevent simultaneous connection of the sources.
