Abstract: ABSTRACT TITLE: DUAL-MODE ELECTROMECHANICAL ACTUATOR SYSTEM FOR ADAPTIVE MOVABLE ANTENNA POSITIONING IN WIRELESS SENSING A dual-mode electromechanical actuator apparatus and method for adaptive movable antenna positioning in wireless sensing systems is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a linear guide rail assembly carrying antenna carriage units, each driven by a cascaded arrangement of a coarse servo motor actuator coupled through lead screw mechanisms and a fine piezoelectric stack actuator coupled through flexure hinge mechanisms. Optical linear encoders and capacitive gap sensors provide closed-loop position feedback. An optimization engine jointly minimizes estimation error bounds subject to sidelobe level constraints to compute optimal antenna positions. A mode switching controller with dual-mode arbitration logic adaptively selects the actuation mode based on displacement magnitude and signal-to- noise ratio. A self-calibration sub-system with reference position markers corrects for mechanical drift. The apparatus achieves sub-wavelength positioning accuracy across the full aperture range, enabling robust sensing performance. [Figure 1]
