MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641095628 A) filed by The Principal, mepco Schlenk Engineering College on August 07, 2026, for Dual-Band Vehicular Antenna With Asymmetric Edge-Stub Impedance Matching.

Inventors include Dr. G. Indumathi; and M. R. A. P. Jawahar.

The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.

Abstract: A compact planar dual-band antenna is disclosed, comprising a modified Sierpinski fractal radiating patch disposed on a dielectric substrate, a ground plane, a pair of shorting pins, a coaxial feed, and a pair of tuning stubs projecting from two opposite radiating edges of the patch in line with the feed point. The two stubs are of common width but unequal length, one stub compensating the parasitic inductance of the coaxial feed probe at the higher operating band while the pair preserves the impedance matching established by the shorting pins at the lower band. A nearly square defected ground structure co-operates with the stubs and the fractal slot boundaries to suppress a spurious resonant mode introduced by the stub loading. In a working embodiment on FR4 substrate within a 32 x32 mm7 footprint, simulation demonstrates a lower band resonance of 5.85-6.08 GHz (SI} = -45.495 dB, bandwidth 230 MHz, gain 4.83 dBi) and an upper-band resonance of 8.40-9.33 GHz (SH = - 37.83 dB, bandwidth 930 MHz, gain 7.03 dBi), a fabricated prototype confirms measured resonances of 5.85-6.08 GHz (S11 = -41.088 dB, gain 4.75 dBi) and 8.20- 9.33 GHz (S = -36.65 dB, gain 7.00 dBi), in good agreement with simulation. The antenna is suitable for simultaneous 5GV2X communication and X-band vehicular radar sensing from a single compact radiating element.
