The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: Medication errors represent a major source of preventable harm in healthcare, particularly during drug preparation and administration in high-stress clinical environments. Errors commonly occur due to similar drug names, comparable packaging designs, poor label visibility, and reliance on manual verification. The proposed Drug Labeling and Colour Coding System Prototype is designed to improve medication safety by enabling rapid and accurate drug identification through standardized visual cues. The system assigns distinct colour codes to medications based on therapeutic category, usage type, or risk level. These colour-coded labels are applied to drug containers in a manner that ensures high visibility under varied lighting conditions. The visual identification approach reduces dependence on text reading alone and minimizes cognitive load for healthcare professionals. The prototype may optionally integrate digital verification using QR codes, allowing instant access to drug information via smartphones without requiring specialized equipment. The system is intended to function alongside existing pharmaceutical packaging, making it suitable for hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, ambulances, and emergency care units. It is designed as a low-cost, scalable, and user-friendly solution that does not disrupt existing workflows. By combining intuitive colour recognition with optional digital confirmation, the proposed system significantly reduces the likelihood of wrong-drug selection, incorrect dosage, and administration delays. Overall, this prototype enhances patient safety, improves workflow efficiency, and supports healthcare professionals in delivering safer medyAtion practices.
