Abstract: 13. ABSTRACT Title: DRIVER DROWSINESS DETECTION SYSTEM ASSISTED WITH AUTONOMOUS PULL-OVER TO THE SAFETY LANE 5 The system monitors the driver's alertness using an in-cabin camera to detect the facial features of the driver to calculate dynamic Drowsiness Score by fusing various parameters such as prolonged eye closure, blink rate and head posture. On detecting the driver's drowsiness, the system generates warning alerts to regain the driver's alertness. The invention uses a 5-state transition machine to evaluate driver's responsiveness by calculating Steering Entropy. If the 10 driver fails to respond to the alert signals, a decision and control module initiates an autonomous safety lane pull-over mechanism. Before starting, the system evaluates the traffic conditions with the help of rear and side mounted sensors whose inputs are used by MSZ algorithm to find safe stopping areas. On confirmation of safe conditions, the system autonomously guides the vehicle to the safety lane and decelerates.
