MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611096106 A) filed by Prof. Dr. Anil Kumar Rai; Dr. Sushma Sinha; and Dr. Shubhanshu Shekhar on August 08, 2026, for Dr. Rai'S Modular Bicentric Bipolar Prosthesis Or Hip Arthroplasty.
Inventor includes Prof. Dr. Anil Kumar Rai.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: A modular bi-centric bipolar prosthesis (100) for hip arthroplasty is disclosed. The prosthesis (100) comprises an outer bipolar cup (102) having an ellipsoidal geometry configured to improve acetabular containment and reduce prosthetic instability. A UHMWPE liner (104) comprises a bevelled inner margin configured to generate additional neck clearance for minimizing neck-cup impingement and polyethylene wear. A modular inner head (106) having a constant diameter of approximately 22.20 mm maintains increased polyethylene thickness for improved wear resistance and prosthesis longevity. A stem and neck assembly (108) having a tapered neck increases hip range of motion, while a calcar-preserving collar (110) preserves calcar bone for physiological load transfer. A modular fixation interface (112) allows modular head offset selection for length restoration of limb, and an implantation guidance interface (114) enables controlled implantation and version control. The combined configuration provides better hip stability, reduced impingement, better biomechanics, and extended prosthesis survival.
