Abstract: ABSTRACT DISTRIBUTED COUNTER-UAV SYSTEM WITH SENSOR FUSION AND PREDICTIVE SOFT-KILL HANDOFF A counter-unmanned aerial vehicle system (100) protects a protected facility (108) within a protected area defined by a protected area boundary (102) against UAV targets (140). The system (100) comprises spatially distributed ground-based sensor nodes (110), each comprising an RF sensing module (112), an acoustic sensing module (114), an optical/thermal sensing module (116), an edge processing unit (118), and a mesh communication module (120). The edge processing unit (118) locally generates a detection of an aerial target, and the mesh communication module (120) distributes information over mesh communication links (150) to neighboring sensor nodes (110) to initiate cooperative sensing. The edge processing unit (118) computes a predicted future position of the UAV target (140) and identifies a next response node (110b), which is prepared for a directional soft-kill response while a current response node (110a) retains coverage, response responsibility transferring within an overlapping coverage region.
