Abstract: The present invention concerns an intelligent forest wildfire monitoring system comprising a Digital Twin system, an Internet of Things (IoT) sensor, a dynamic graph modeling, domination theory, and adaptive sensor reconfiguration. A plurality of environmental sensors collects wildfire parameters such as temperature, humidity, smoke, gas concentration, wind velocity and wind direction along with sensor operational information. The Digital Twin is a virtual copy of a physical forest monitoring area that is continually fed by the sensor network. The locations where candidates are placed are displayed in a dynamic graph, and are assessed based on the wildfire risk, the energy that the sensor needs to transmit, connectivity for the sensors, sensor health and the priority for monitoring. A domination based optimization module selects an active sensor set that meets a set of desired monitoring coverage and fault-tolerance requirements. If there is a change in an environmental risk or a sensor failure, the Digital Twin will adjust the monitoring state and dynamic graph, and a back-up sensor selection and adaptive reconfiguration process will be used to find an alternative sensor configuration. After reconfiguration, coverage verification is done and the configuration is synced to the Digital Twin. The invention also provides a Digital Twin Adaptive Weighted Fault-Tolerant Domination Number to determine the minimum active sensor requirement in a current Digital Twin state. The system facilitates risk-aware, energy-aware, fault-tolerant and continuously adaptive forest wildfire monitoring.
