MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641106329 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Palakkad on September 03, 2026, for Dielectric Superstrate-Integrated Multiband Reflective Metasurface Device With Independently Controllable Resonant Modes.

Inventors include Pati, Shyam Sundar; and Sahoo, Swaroop.

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: A multiband reflective metasurface device (100) is disclosed. The device (100) includes a conductive ground layer (102), a dielectric substrate (104) positioned on the conductive ground layer (102), a metasurface layer (106) positioned on the dielectric substrate (104), and a dielectric superstrate (110) positioned above the metasurface layer (106). The metasurface layer (106) includes a plurality of periodically arranged unit cells (108), each unit cell (108) comprising multiple nested open-ended conductive resonators separated by gap regions. The nested open-ended conductive resonators generate a plurality of resonant modes, and geometrical parameters associated with respective resonators enable independent control of corresponding resonant frequencies. The device (100) supports triband operation with reduced inter- band coupling and may provide polarization conversion between incident and reflected electromagnetic waves. The dielectric superstrate (110) may define a sensing region configured to receive an analyte for refractive-index sensor. The dielectric superstrate (100) may be implemented as a phase controlled device to achieve suppression of coherent backscattering by periodically arranged unit cells (108) in mirror symmetric configuration.
