MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521019414 A) filed by Jsw Steel Limited on March 04, 2025, for Development Of Ultra High Strength And Superior Ductility Globular Bainitic Steel And The Method Of Manufacturing Thereof.

Inventors include Dr Jitendra Narayan Mohapatra; and Dr Satish Kumar Dabbiru.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT TITLE: DEVELOPMENT OF ULTRA HIGH STRENGTH AND SUPERIOR DUCTILITY GLOBULAR BAINITIC STEEL AND THE METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THEREOF The present invention scopes an ultra high strength and superior ductility bainitic steel comprising of alloy composition including select wt.% of elements: C 0.20-0.25, Mn 2.0-2.5, S 0.04 max, P 0.06 max, Si 1.5-2.0, Al 0.05 max, Cr 0.5-1.0, Ni 0.05 max, Cu 0.15-0.25, Nb 0.03-0.07, V 0.003- 0.006, Ti 0.02-0.04, Mo 0.10-0.20, B 0.001-0.002 having bainite steel based globular microstructure with retained austenite in the range of 10-12% providing YS 600 MPa, UTS1100 MPa and TE20 %. A method for manufacture of said bainitic steel is provided by involving select alloy constitution and heat treatment cycle wherein the hot deformed sheets are subjected to austenitization above A3 followed by salt bath holding in the range of 350 to 480oC and was observed to provide best properties when austenitized above A3 followed by salt bath holding between 340-360oC due to the presence of globular type bainities in the range of 50-55% along with fine precipitates in addition to the TRIP effect for the presence of 10% retained austenite. With further increase in the bainitic holding temperature the bainitic volume fraction increase and goes above 60% and then it transforms to upper bainite and the retained austenite transforms to bainite/martensite leading to drop in the elongation.
