Abstract: DEVELOPMENT OF POSTBIOTIC-INTEGRATED BIOPOLYMER HYDROGEL INCORPORATING sessilis FOR POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS IN ECZEMA-ASSOCIATED SKIN INFLAMMATION The present work investigates the therapeutic potential of Alternanthera sessilis (L.) R.Br. ex DC - Green cultivar (commonly called as Joyweed) through comprehensive in vitro phytochemical and bioactivity assessments of the development of a postbiotic-integrated Biopolymer hydrogel system containing Alternanthera sessilis for potential eczema management and skin barrier support through multifunctional topical therapeutic applications. The focus of the invention is to combine bioactive phytochemicals derived from green Alternanthera sessilis with postbiotic components in order to formulate a biocompatible hydrogel system capable of providing anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, moisturizing, soothing, and skin barrier supportive effects for eczema-prone skin conditions. The hydrogel system incorporates bioactive phytoconstituents present in Alternanthera sessilis, including flavonoids, phenolics, tannins, alkaloids, and terpenoids, which are known for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. In parallel, postbiotic components such as microbial ferment filtrates, peptides, organic acids, exopolysaccharides, and short-chain fatty acid derivatives are integrated into the formulation to support skin microbiome balance and epithelial barrier restoration. The developed Biopolymer hydrogel possesses suitable physicochemical characteristics, making it suitable for topical dermatological applications. Preliminary evaluations indicate significant antioxidant, soothing, and anti-inflammatory potential relevant to eczema-associated barrier dysfunction. This synergic invention highlights the role of phytochemicals and postbiotics in supporting skin barrier repair and maintaining skin hydration, thereby providing a foundation for the future development of plant-based dermatological formulations intended for chronic inflammatory skin conditions including eczema.
