The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The invention presents a novel sustainable approach for producing high-performance artificial coarse aggregates from industrial waste materials, specifically fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS), through geopolymerization and pelletization techniques. This method addresses the dual challenges of natural resource depletion and industrial waste accumulation by transforming abundant by-products into value-added construction materials suitable for structural concrete applications. The developed artificial aggregates demonstrate comparable physical, mechanical, and durability properties to conventional natural aggregates while offering significant environmental benefits, including reduced carbon footprint and lower landfill dependency. Comprehensive characterization and performance evaluation in Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) concrete mixes confirm that the 100% fly ash-based variant achieves optimal results, delivering approximately 80% of the compressive strength of natural aggregate concrete along with satisfactory workability and tensile properties. This innovation promotes circular economy principles in the construction sector by enabling the large-scale utilization of industrial wastes without compromising structural integrity.
