MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641097851 A) filed by Yuvarani S on August 13, 2026, for Development Of Herbal-Fe2o3 Functionalized Biochar Composite From Agricultural Waste For Efficient Dye Removal From Wastewater.
Inventor includes Yuvarani S.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to the development of an herbal-functionalized Fe203 -biochar composite derived from agricultural waste for the efficient removal of dye contaminants from wastewater. The invention provides a sustainable, eco-friendly, and cost-effective adsorbent by converting agricultural biomass into biochar through pyrolysis, followed by modification with selected herbal extracts and iron oxide (Fe203) nanoparticles to enhance adsorption efficiency and enable magnetic_separation. The prepared_composite possesses_a high surface_area, abundant_functional groups, and improved stability, resulting in enhanced removal of cationic and anionic dyes from aqueous solutions. The invention further includes methods for preparation, characterization, and evaluation of the nano herbal biochar composite using UV—Visible spectrophotometry is used to measure the dye adsorption efficiency of the biochar composite by analyzing the decrease in dye concentration after treatment. The adsorption performance is assessed by determining dye removal efficiency, adsorption capacity, kinetics, equilibrium isotherms, and regeneration potential under different operating conditions. The disclosed nano herbal biochar composite provides an efficient, reusable, and environmentally friendly solution for wastewater treatment. The invention promotes the valorization of agricultural waste into a high-value adsorbent, contributing to sustainable environmental management, pollution control, and the advancement of green water purification technologies.
