Abstract: ABSTRACT OF INVENTION DEVELOPMENT OF FLY ASH AND GGBS BASED GEOPOLYMER CONCRETE PRODUCED FROM QUARTZ-BASED ALTERNATE ALKALI ACTIVATOR The present invention relates to an alkali-activated concrete comprising an alkali activator based on an industrial/mineral source, the alkali activator being composed of quartz. The mortar is made with a ratio of 1:1 of fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), sand and coarse aggregate ratio of 1:1.93. The alternate activator is made by mixing quartz precursor with sodium hydroxide solution with magnetic stirring for 1 hour at room temperature. The developed mortar was tested at the molarities of NaOH used in the process of development, which are 8M, 10M, and 12M. The 8M obtained the optimum performances with compressive strength of 52 MPa, flexural strength of 5.4 MPa, split tensile strength of 4.5 MPa and UPV of 4558 m/s. Compressive strength of 10M and 12M were achieved at 10M and 12M, respectively. The invention presents an alternative to traditional commercial alkali activator that is viable in terms of performance, and sustainable for construction applications.
