Abstract: Abstract The present invention relates to the development of an eco-friendly and biodegradable biopolymer derived from banana pseudo-stem mucilage and its potential industrial applications. Banana pseudo-stem, an abundant agricultural waste, is utilized as a sustainable source for the extraction of natural mucilage. The invention further provides the formulation of biodegradable films and coatings using the obtained mucilage, optionally in combination with suitable plasticizers and stabilizers. Additionally, the mucilage demonstrates potential as a natural excipient, functioning as a binder, stabilizer, and controlled release agent. The invention offers a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable alternative to synthetic polymers while promoting the valorisation of agricultural waste. Overall, the developed biopolymer provides a promising solution for green and sustainable industrial applications.
