Abstract: ABSTRACT [0011] The present invention relates to a magnesium-carbon fiber (Mg-CF) sandwich composite and a hybrid fabrication method for aerospace applications. The composite comprises AZ31 magnesium alloy face sheets and a carbon fiber reinforced polymer core with controlled fiber orientations selected from unidirectional, bidirectional, and multidirectional stacking sequences. The fabrication process integrates filament drum winding for fiber alignment, followed by hand lay-up and compression moulding under controlled temperature and pressure conditions to achieve improved interfacial bonding and structural integrity. The optimized fiber architecture enables enhanced load distribution, resulting in improved mechanical strength, increased thermal stability, and reduced wear rate and coefficient of friction under sliding conditions. The invention provides lightweight structural material with improved multifunctional performance suitable for aerospace and other high-performance engineering applications.
