Abstract: SMART-CHILL 40 is a low-cost, lightweight and portable a milk chilling unit for small scale milk farmers and rural milk collection systems. The proposed 30-40 litre can uses a food-grade inner chamber, 25-30 mm PUF (Polyurethane Foam) insulation and removable, reusable Phase Change Material (PCM) cartridges to provide passive cooling during milk collection arid transportation. The pre-cooled PCM cartridges absorb heat from the milk while the insulation minimizes external heat gain, targeting a milk temperature of 4-8°C for 6-12 hours without continuous external power. An ESP32-based monitoring system with DS18B20 temperature sensors and an OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) display continuously monitors temperature and provides SAFE/WARNING alerts when the temperature approaches the upper limit. The modular thermal-battery design allows PC14' cartridges to be removed, recharged and configured according to transportation duration. The system aims to reduce milk spoilage, improve cold-chain continuity, minimize handling effort and provide an affordable cooling solution for electricity-limited rural areas.
