Abstract: ABSTRACT [0017] Conventional urban waste collection relies on fixed schedules and manual segregation, frequently resulting in overflowing bins, inefficient vehicle routes and high fuel consumption. The present invention discloses an artificial-intelligence-based waste-management framework that unites Internet-of-Things sensing, deep-learning classification and dynamic route optimisation. Smart bins equipped with ultrasonic, visual, GPS and environmental sensors continuously report fill level, location and ambient conditions. Images captured by the visual sensors are classified by a convolutional neural network into organic, recyclable or hazardous categories with an average accuracy of 93.4 percent. When bins approach capacity, intelligent algorithms such as Dijkstra, A* and genetic search generate the shortest feasible collection routes that respect vehicle capacity and current road conditions. A centralised dashboard displays real-time bin status, vehicle positions and operational alerts, enabling data-driven decisions. Experimental evaluation demonstrates a 43 percent reduction in missed collections, a 47 percent reduction in overflow incidents, a 25 percent reduction in route length and nearly 25 percent lower fuel use compared with traditional systems. The framework therefore offers a scalable, environmentally sustainable solution suitable for smart cities and other large-scale waste-management environments.
