Abstract: DEVELOPMENT OF A SYNBIOTIC CARRAGEENAN DIP BAG CONTAINING BACILLUS COAGULANS AND INULIN FOR FUNCTIONAL BEVERAGE APPLICATION ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a biodegradable and edible synbiotic dip-bag for delivering probiotic and prebiotic components in a functional beverage. The invention utilizes Bacillus coagulans as the probiotic component and inulin as the prebiotic component within a single-use pouch prepared from a carrageenan-based film derived from Eucheuma cottonii, with food-grade glycerol as a plasticizer. Carrageenan is dispersed in distilled water, heated and stirred with glycerol to obtain a homogeneous film-forming composition, cast into a mold, and dried to obtain a flexible carrageenan based film. The dried film is cut, folded to form a pouch with an opening, and perforated for water penetration. The synbiotic formulation, with optional flavouring components such as ginger and lemon, is introduced into the pouch, which is then sealed. Upon immersion in an aqueous beverage medium, water penetrates the pouch and releases the formulation, providing a convenient, sustainable alternative to conventional probiotic beverage delivery formats.
