Abstract: The present invention relates to an IoT-based cyclist safety system designed to enhance rider safety, visibility, and situational awareness. The system utilizes a master- slave architecture comprising a gesture sensing unit, a control unit, a wireless communication module, and a receiving unit for indicator actuation. The gesture sensing unit detects hand movements using an inertial sensor and processes them to generate directional commands, which are transmitted wirelessly to activate corresponding indicators. Additionally, a proximity sensing unit continuously monitors rear-approaching objects and provides real-time alerts to the cyclist, along with distance information displayed on a handlebar-mounted screen. The invention further incorporates an environmental response unit configured to detect rainfall and automatically activate a protective mechanism. Upon detection of water droplets, a servo motor actuates a deployable shield fabricated using Poly-lite PLA material through a 3D printing process, providing a lightweight and structurally efficient protective element. The system operates through coordinated and event-driven processing, ensuring real-time response and efficient functioning of all modules. The integrated design provides a compact, cost-effective, and practical solution for enhancing cyclist safety under varying traffic and environmental conditions.
