Abstract: Abstract: 1,2-bis(4-amino phenyl) ethane-1,2-dione is prepared by the action of oxidation of 4,4’-diamino benzoin. The preparation of 4,4’-diamino benzoin can be achieved from starting materials like aromatic aldehydes through the formation of benzoin followed by oxidation. The compound 1,2-bis(4-aminophenyl) ethane-1,2- dione was synthesized and is then purified. The compound was characterised using IR and mass spectral studies which is used to determine the presence of functional group and type of transitions. In vitro anti oxidant and anti bacterial activities were also studied. Biochemical investigations revealed significant biological activity compared to those of respective controls.
