Abstract: The increasing demand for sustainable and environmentally responsible alternatives to synthetic dyes has led to renewed interest in plant-based colorants. This project focuses on the development of a natural dye from the fruit of Limonia acidissima (wood apple), an underutilized resource rich in-bioactive-compounds-such as tannins, flavonoids, and phenolic pigments. The study aims to extract dye from the fruit pulp using suitable solvents such as water and ethanol, followed by its application on natural textile fabrics like cotton and silk. The extraction process involves preparation of the fruit material, solvent extraction, filtration, and concentration of the dye solution. The dyeing process is carried out under optimized conditions, including the use of mordants to improve dye uptake and color fastness. The dyed fabrics are evaluated for their color intensity, wash fastness, light fastness, and rubbing resistance. In addition, preliminary analysis of antimicrobial activity of the dyed fabrics may be performed to explore functional properties. The results of this study are expected to demonstrate the feasibility of using wood apple as a natural dye source, providing a value-added application for fruit waste. This project contributes to the development of sustainable textile processing methods while reducing environmental pollution associated with synthetic dyes. Overall, the research highlights the potential of Limonia acidissima as an effective, biodegradable, and economical source of natural dye for textile applications.
