Abstract: The present invention relates to a microsponge-loaded topical gel composition for sustained antifungal delivery of luliconazole and quercetin. The composition comprises luliconazole and quercetin entrapped within porous polymeric microsponges formed using ethyl cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, and Tween 80, wherein the optimized microsponges are dispersed in a Carbopol 934 gel base. The microsponges are preferably prepared by quasi-emulsion solvent diffusion using an acetone-based internal phase and an aqueous polyvinyl alcohol external phase under controlled stirring. The optimized formulation provides suitable particle size, high entrapment efficiency, skin-compatible pH, and sustained drug release for up to about 12 hours. In a preferred embodiment, the formulation comprises about 123.85 mg ethyl cellulose and about 1.74% polyvinyl alcohol, incorporated into a 1% Carbopol gel base. The composition improves localized antifungal therapy, reduces repeated application frequency, enhances patient compliance, and provides a stable alternative to conventional topical antifungal formulations.
