MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511078280 A) filed by Indraprastha Institute Of Information Technology Delhi on August 18, 2025, for Determining Speed Of An Event.
Inventors include Sharma, Tarun; Deb, Sujay; Pagar, Sohan; and Patil, Samhita.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: A method for detecting the speed of an event using a regular camera is disclosed. The method includes receiving, in a synchronous manner, a plurality of frames of a video capturing the event. The received frames are processed to generate event data, which represents motion characteristics extracted from intensity variations between consecutive frames. The method further includes determining the speed of the event by analyzing the event data, computing displacement, and converting the measured displacement into units. The calculated speed is then outputted for display, storage, or further analysis. The proposed method enables real-time, low-cost speed estimation without requiring specialized event cameras, making it suitable for applications such as traffic monitoring, sports analytics, and industrial automation.
