Abstract: The titled invention discloses an efficient, cost-effective system that automates the inspection and stacking of PET preforms in the manufacturing process. Bottle production relies on the fabrication of profile (PET) preforms as an intermediate 10 product; therefore, the shape and finish of preforms impact their ultimate outcome. In most manufacturing industries, preforms are still manually inspected and stacked; thus, this procedure is typically very tedious, labor-intensive, and contains a fair amount of human error. The intending design will incorporate mechanical and electrical subsystems along with sensors to provide a fully automated system for 15 handling, inspecting! and stacking preforms (semi-automatic operation). This will . provide for the uniform orientation of the preforms (prior the inspection) using a vibrating feeder (1); furthermore, photoelectric sensors (6) will detect any defects on the surface of the preform (i.e., color variation, scratches, incomplete shaping, etc.). Based on the inspection results, the control unit (microcontroller) (7) determines 20 whether a preform is acceptable or defective. Upon detecting a defect, the actuator mechanism (8) is activated to remove the defective preform from the production line and direct it into the rejection bin (9). Accepted preforms continue moving along the conveyor belt assembly (4) without interruption. The defect-free preforms are subsequently transferred to the rotary indexing mechanism (10}, which arranges and 25 stacks them in an organized manner within the stacking tray (11 ), thus reducing the need for any human interference and .allowing for the preforms to be stacked in continuous operation.
