MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641059552 A) filed by Saveetha Engineering College on May 11, 2026, for Design Of High Sensitivity Ce3+ Doped Tellurite Ceramics For Medical Dosimetry.
Inventor includes Dr. Vinothkumar Panjanathan.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: Abstract The present work describes the design of high-sensitivity 1 mol% Ce3+ doped tellurite ceramics for medical dosimetry applications. The composition 69TeO2-20ZnO-10Na2O-lCe2O3 was synthesized by melt-quenching followed by heat treatment at 450 °C. XRD confirmed the partially crystalline structure, while SEM revealed dense and uniform morphology. FTIR and Raman analyses identified TeCL and TeCb structural units responsible for charge trapping. Thermoluminescence (TL) studies under gamma irradiation (0.1-15 Gy) showed a strong glow peak at 505 K with good thermal stability. The TL response exhibited excellent linearity in the 0.1-10 Gy range with R2 = 0.998. The developed ceramic showed nearly three times higher sensitivity than commercial TLD- 100 dosimeters and a minimum detectable dose of 70 |iGy. Fading loss was limited to 3.8% after 30 days, while repeatability deviation remained within ±2.5%. The high effective atomic number (Zeff ~ 48) improved gamma-ray absorption efficiency, making the material suitable for radiotherapy and medical radiation dosimetry applications.
