MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641106150 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences on September 03, 2026, for Design And Development Of A Non-Invasive Interactive Sensory Device For Pediatric Dental Anxiety Reduction.
Inventors include N. V. S. Kailash Gupta; Dr T Sathish; Dr Vignesh; and Dr Ramya Mohan.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: Dental anxiety in children frequently leads to emotional distress, lack of cooperation, and extended dental treatment duration. The present invention introduces a non- invasive, child-friendly, sensorybased interactive device specifically designed to reduce anxiety in pediatric patients during dental procedures. The device is developed in the form of a character-based calming toy that engages children through controlled auditory, tactile, and vibrational stimulation. The system integrates a compact embedded processing unit responsible for managing sensor inputs, audio playback, haptic feedback, and wireless communication while operating under strict safety and low-power constraints suitable for pediatric use. Multiple touch and pressure sensors are embedded within the toy to detect interaction patterns such as squeezing, tapping, or holding. In response, the processor activates pre-programmed calming actions, including soothing voice messages, gentle vibration patterns, and soft sound effects delivered through a low-power speaker. A wireless communication module allows dental professionals to configure device behavior, audio content, or operational modes without direct physical interaction with the child, ensuring uninterrupted comfort. The power system is based on a rechargeable low-voltage battery with integrated protection circuitry to prevent overcharging, overheating, or electrical hazards. The internal electronic architecture follows a modular and well- organized structure, enabling independent yet synchronized operation of processing, sensing, audio, haptic, communication, and power management units. The external enclosure is designed using soft-touch, non-toxic materials with rounded edges, ensuring complete child safety. The invention provides a safe, reusable, and emotionally engaging solution that improves cooperation, reduces fear and perceived discomfort, and enhances the overall pediatric dental care experience without the use of medication or invasive techniques.e
