Abstract: ABSTRACT [0033] Schiff bases are an important class of compounds formed by condensation of primary amines with aldehydes or ketones, producing an azomethine (C=N) linkage. These compounds have gained considerable attention due to their diverse biological activities including antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antitubercular properties. The present study focuses on the design, synthesis, characterization, and biological evaluation of novel Schiff bases derived from metformin and isoniazid using various substituted aromatic aldehydes such as benzaldehyde, salicylaldehyde, 2-nitrobenzaldehyde, 4-nitrobenzaldehyde, anisaldehyde, Fluoro benzaldehyde, chlorobenzaldehyde and trimethoxybenzaldehyde. The synthesized compounds were characterized using IR spectroscopy to confirm the formation of azomethine (C=N) bonds. The biological potential of synthesized compounds was evaluated using antibacterial assays against Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli by agar well diffusion method. The results showed that several synthesized Schiff bases exhibited promising antibacterial activity against both organisms comparable to standard drugs. The study suggests that metformin and isoniazid derived Schiff bases represent promising scaffolds for development of new therapeutic agents.
