MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541077773 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Science on August 14, 2025, for Deformable Liquid Semiconductor Device And Method Of Fabrication Thereof.
Inventors include Pandey, Anshu; and Avasthi, Sushobhan.
The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.
Abstract: The liquid semiconductor device (100) includes at least two electrodes (102a, 102b) and a liquid semiconductor material disposed between the at least two electrodes (102a, 102b). The liquid semiconductor material is formed of a chalcogen-halogen compound having a chemical formula YnX2, where Y is a chalcogen, n is a predefined number, and X is a halogen. The liquid semiconductor material acts as an active electronic channel bridging a gap between the at least two electrodes (102a, 102b). The chemical structure of the chalcogen-halogen compound is specifically configured such that halogen atoms cap atomic chain ends of the chalcogen to modify structural properties of the liquid semiconductor material. The configuration eliminates unsatisfied valency states, prevents defect formation due to a lack of long-range order, and ensures the liquid semiconductor material retains semiconducting characteristics while in a liquid state and when subjected to mechanical deformation.
