Abstract: DEDICATED CURVED FENESTRATED INSTRUMENT FOR CONTROLLED INTERCOSTAL CHEST DRAIN (ICD) INSERTION The present invention relates to a specialized surgical instrument designed specifically for insertion of an intercostal chest drain (ICD) into the pleural cavity. More specifically, the present invention provides a modified Fenestrated Instrument (100) comprising of short shank (101) and long shank (102) each having circular ring handle (103, 104) at one end and jaw (105, 106) at the other end, wherein proximal working jaw (106) is longer than distal working jaw (105), and pivot joint (107) to pinned both shanks together and allows them to move in close and open position; characterized in that the proximal working jaw of the instrument that incorporates a curved atraumatic tip longer than distal working jaw designed to guide the instrument along an upward trajectory toward the pleural cavity during insertion.
