Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a decentralized end-to-end encrypted messaging system and method for securely exchanging message data between computing devices. The system comprises a user authentication unit configured to authenticate a user and locally derive a cryptographic key, an encryption and decryption unit configured to encrypt outgoing message data before transmission and decrypt received encrypted message data within a destination computing device, a peer-to-peer communication unit configured to establish a direct communication session and transmit encrypted message data between authenticated computing devices, a fallback synchronization unit configured to temporarily synchronize encrypted message data responsive to interruption of the direct communication session and restore pending message delivery after communication availability is re-established, and a local message storage unit configured to locally store recovered message data associated with a communication session. The coordinated operation of the user authentication unit, encryption and decryption unit, peer-to-peer communication unit, fallback synchronization unit, and local message storage unit facilitates authenticated decentralized communication using locally generated cryptographic information and encrypted message synchronization.
