Abstract: Cutting device for cutting a strip-shaped material, in particular a tacky cord strip, comprising a beam-shaped lower blade (5) and a beam-shaped upper blade (6) which for cutting is moved vertically in terms of the positionally fixed lower blade (5), wherein the lower blade (5) is disposed on a blade carrier (3), which blade carrier (3) is mounted so as to be movable linearly and horizontally on a device frame (2) and is movable by way of actuating means (8) linearly in such a manner that the position of the lower blade (5) relative to the upper blade (6) is variable and a cutting gap (S) provided between the two blades is adjustable, and a device for detecting the horizontal movement of the lower blade (5) relative to the upper blade (6), wherein the device comprises at least one sensor (9) by way of which a sensor signal representing a measure of the motion path of the blade carrier (3) effected by way of the actuating means (8) is able to be detected and provided to a processing device (11) which is specified to ascertain a path information defining the motion path based on the sensor signal, wherein the path information is able to be displayed at a display unit (12).
