Abstract: The present invention relates to a customized temporomandibular joint (TMJ) support appliance integrated with an embedded pressure sensing mechanism for monitoring jaw activity and occlusal forces. TMJ disorders often arise due to abnormal jaw movement, excessive bite force, bruxism, or joint misalignment, leading to pain, discomfort, and functional limitations. Conventional TMJ appliances provide passive support but lack the ability to measure or adapt to real-time pressure variations exerted during jaw movements. The proposed appliance is designed as a patient-specific oral support structure fabricated to match individual dental and jaw anatomy. It incorporates one or more miniaturized pressure sensors positioned at strategic contact points to continuously detect force distribution during biting, clenching, or jaw motion. The sensed data is processed using an embedded control unit and can be transmitted wirelessly to an external monitoring device for clinical assessment. This smart TMJ appliance enables objective evaluation of bite pressure patterns, helps clinicians track therapy progress, and assists in adjusting treatment protocols based on actual usage data. The system operates on low power and ensures user comfort, safety, and long-term wearability. By combining mechanical support with intelligent sensing, the invention enhances diagnostic accuracy, improves patient compliance, and supports proactive management of TMJ disorders. The customized TMJ support appliance offers an advanced, non-invasive, and data-driven solution for modern dental and maxillofacial therapy applications.
