MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641111934 A) filed by Dr. Hemavathy E; Ms. Punyashree C S; Ms. Sneha S; Ms. Aruna H K; Dr. Abhinandan N; Dr. Nagesh N; and Ms. Suman Kumari C Mali on September 17, 2026, for Culture Chamber Enabled Microbial Fuel Cell Power Bank And Method Of Working Thereof.

Inventors include Dr. Hemavathy E; Ms. Punyashree C S; Ms. Sneha S; Ms. Aruna H K; Dr. Abhinandan N; Dr. Nagesh N; and Ms. Suman Kumari C Mali.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a portable microbial fuel cell power bank (1) comprising a microbial culture chamber (2) having a transparent or translucent chamber wall (3), an electrode assembly (4) comprising an anode (5) and a cathode (6), and an openable closure (7) having a threaded screw lid (8) and resilient sealing member (9). A microbial culture and substrate are introduced into the chamber (2), followed by sealing and controlled gas exchange through an aeration assembly (10) having a hydrophobic gas-permeable membrane (11), vent base (12) and protective cap (13). Microbial electrochemical activity generates electrical energy at the electrode assembly (4), which is transferred to a power-management circuit (14), temporarily accumulated by an energy-buffering element (15), conditioned and supplied through a battery charging and protection circuit (16) to a rechargeable energy-storage unit (17) comprising a rechargeable lithium-ion cell (18).
