Abstract: The present invention discloses the CryoSpatula, a pre-cooled gel-integrated dental mixing spatula designed to extend the working time of alginate impression material during clinical use. The device comprises a standard flexible plastic mixing blade with an embedded thin layer of phase-change cooling gel within the blade body, and a conventional unmodified plastic handle that remains thermally neutral during use. The gel is confined exclusively to the blade — the active mixing surface — ensuring direct thermal contact with the alginate during spatulation. The handle retains normal temperature and tactile properties, ensuring clinician comfort throughout the mixing procedure. Prior to use, the CryoSpatula is pre-conditioned by refrigeration. Upon retrieval, the cooled blade passively lowers the temperature of the alginate during mixing, retarding the exothermic setting reaction and extending the working time. The device requires no modification to the conventional mixing technique, no electrical power, and no external water source, making it suitable for routine clinical and field dental use.
