MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641108824 A) filed by Ashok Leyland Limited on September 10, 2026, for Cryogenic Storage Tank.
Inventors include Vijay Bhooshan Kumar; Shuvradwip Gupta; and Kanakasabapathi Subramanian.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: A cryogenic storage tank (100) for a cryogenic liquid (102) includes an inner shell (104) defining a containment volume for the cryogenic liquid (102), an outer shell wall (114) spaced from the inner shell (104) to define an interspace therebetween, and an insulating jacket (118) occupying the interspace. The insulating jacket (118) is a single continuous monolithic body having a closed-cell foam matrix (120) of aluminium-silicate reinforced with reinforcing fibre elements (124) of glass fibre, a plurality of sealed micro-vacuum cavities (152) distributed through the closed-cell foam matrix (120) with each micro-vacuum cavity (152) having an evacuated interior, and a plurality of phase-change microcapsules (126) dispersed through the closed-cell foam matrix (120) and arranged to absorb heat passively without an active refrigeration circuit. The insulating jacket (118) is functionally graded, extends continuously over the inner shell (104), over a structural member (140), and around a valve body (136) and a pipe penetration (138), and forms a structural load-transfer member between the inner shell (104) and the outer shell wall (114).
